Camposol Public Spaces - Memorial Park
There are many public open spaces on the Camposol development
Some have been landscaped and cultivated while others are left to form wild environments
The Camposol Memorial Park (Parque de la Memoria) is situated on the development’s Sector A just off the motorway roundabout and it is probably the best known of Camposol’s parks due to its high visibility location.
It also contains the Camposol Garden of Remembrance as well as other relaxing and calming areas (see the image gallery below).
The park is crisscrossed with footpaths and has established fir trees throughout. Parts are laid with gravel and a variety of plants, while various sections include shaded areas, a petanca court and numerous seats. It is also the home of the “Bienvenido a Los Palacios” (Welcome to Los Palacios) sign: “Los Palacios” is the name adopted to replace “Sector A” by the residents of that sector some years ago!
Along with other green areas in Camposol, the park is for the most part maintained by residents' volunteer gardening groups (in this case the Los Palacios Gardening & Community Group). These volunteers can regularly be seen tending to the plants, maintaining the facilities and working on landscaping projects.
The Garden of Remembrance (Jardín de la Memoria) can be found in the centre of Memorial Park, the focal point being a low circular grey tiled dais with a low adjoining triangular approach with inlaid white crucifix. In the centre of the circular dais is a white stone orb, a structure made and funded by Los Palacios Gardening group which is regularly used for services of Remembrance on anniversaries such as Armistice Day each November 11. This is usually attended by the Mazarrón Mayor and councillors, as was a recent commemoration of the 40th anniversary the end of the Falkland Islands conflict.
These services are usually organised by the Murcia Branch of Royal British Legion, who also arranged a well-attended memorial after the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Tuesday September 20 2022. Queen Elizabeth was also the long-time Patron of the Royal British Legion Charity.
Around the outer edge of the raised dais and on the stone seats small metallic name plaques in memory of Camposol residents who have passed away have been fixed in cooperation with the gardening group.
