Where is Monday December 9 a bank holiday in Spain?
Spain celebrates the Day of the Immaculate Conception each year on December 8
As the year draws to a close, many of us are eagerly anticipating a well-deserved break from work. And what better way to do that than with a long weekend?
December is just around the corner, and with it comes the traditional December long weekend, a time when many of us can take a breather and recharge before the holiday season kicks into high gear.
But before we get too excited, it's worth noting that not everyone will be able to enjoy the full benefits of this long weekend. You see, December 8, which is a national holiday in Spain, falls on a Sunday this year. And while some regions have decided to move the holiday to Monday December 9, others will stick to the original date.
December 6 on the other hand, which falls on a Friday this year, is a national holiday throughout Spain. This day commemorates Constitution Day, one of the most important holidays in the country. And, as it's a national holiday, it applies to all of Spain, so everyone can enjoy a day off.
Going back to the feast of the Immaculate Conception, the local governments in Andalucía, Aragon, Castilla y Leon, Extremadura, the Region of Murcia and the city of Melilla have all decided to shift the holiday to Monday December 9, meaning those lucky folks will enjoy a nice, long four-day weekend.
The rest of the autonomous communities in Spain have decided to stick to the original date, so they'll only get three consecutive days of holiday. Monday December 9, will be a regular school day for them.
