Casa de Cultura and public library, San Miguel de Salinas
Social centre, public library and cultural centre are all housed in this one building
The Casa de Cultura, Centro Social and public library in San Miguel de Salinas are all housed in the same building, in Calle Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, just one minute’s walk from the church in the centre of the town.
The building is home to a wide variety of events throughout the year, including talks, exhibitions and film projections. The library, which includes a modest English language section, is open every day from Monday to Friday between 9.00 and 14.00 and then again from 16.00 to 21.00.
Free internet access is provided here, and there is a small book club for those who enjoy reading in Spanish: at least one non-native resident already participates in the fortnightly meetings. At the same time, Graciela, who oversees the library, is keen to increase its role at the centre of San Miguel’s cultural life, and anyone wishing to use the facilities for similar clubs and societies should speak directly to her.
The Casa de Cultura also houses exhibition facilities and a large multi purpose room used for all manner of performances and cultural activities. This is generally more widely used during the winter months as there is also a summer outdoor auditorium which is more popular during the warmer months.
