Santa Rosalia Today is a website set up by Murcia Today specifically for residents of the urbanisation in Southwest Murcia, providing news and information on what’s happening in the local area, which is the largest English-speaking expat area in the Region of Murcia.
When submitting text to be included on Santa Rosalia Today, please abide by the following guidelines so we can upload your article as swiftly as possible:

December 12-January 5 Christmas events and activities in San Javier
More than 100 festive activities have been arranged in San Javier this Christmas and New Year
Spectacular Nativity scenes
- The Nativity Scene of Spain: A breathtaking 500-square-metre display featuring more than 2,000 figures, celebrating its legacy as one of the largest and most iconic nativity scenes in Spain.
- The Nativity Scene of the Marquesa: A Neapolitan-inspired masterpiece in the Town Hall lobby.
- The Nativity Scene of the Sailor: A charming, traditional-style display in Santiago de la Ribera.
Concerts, shows and performances
- December 12: Opening of the Magical World of Tim Burton in the Plaza de España, setting the mood for a Christmas that will feature the Coral Patnia’s opening speech.
- December 15: A Traditional Choir Meeting with the participation of the “Ars Antigua” Choir from Torre Pacheco and the “Magister” Choir from Cartagena, in the church of San Javier.
- December 25: “La Marimorena” concert by Rafael de Utrera, featuring 20 artists, creating a vibrant Christmas atmosphere in the Plaza de España.
- December 28: The 1st Popular Christmas Music Meeting, featuring the Coro Rociero Arraigo as a guest group, alongside local and regional choirs and dance groups.
- January 3: “Carriló” show by the La Tal campaign, with two sessions at 6pm and 7pm, where the human gear of a clock moves before the eyes of the public, a unique and captivating experience.
Other highlights from December 12-January 5
- Winter Theatre: Six shows, including a Christmas concert by Ruth Lorenzo, the play “La estrellera y el reloj del tiempo” with the San Javier theatre group, “The Magic Flute,” “The Nutcracker” with the Municipal Dance Workshop, the San Javier Symphonic Band and “The Four Seasons” by Vivaldi with the Meyervbeer Orchestra.
- Christmas Market in Santiago de la Ribera: A festive market epicentre from December 20 to January 5, featuring 10 local businesses and 13 artisans, with a food truck this year.
- Local artists and performances: Enjoy performances by local talents such as Aparatus, Jurassic Band, Dora Helena, Filiu, Javier Alcaraz, Jesús Hernández and Amber, among others.
- Children’s programme: Santa Claus arrives on December 20, the Three Wise Men Parade is on January 5 and the Twelfth Night celebration with raffles, activities and entertainment for the little ones.

The municipality of San Javier has three main offices giving tourist information to visitors, as well as two information points. The tourist offices are located in Santiago de la Ribera, on the ground floor of the town hall in San Javier and at the start of La Manga. There is also a summer tourist information point located on the seafront in Santiago de la Ribera as well as one at kilometre 12-13 of La Manga del Mar Menor next to Playa Mistral.
Due to its location on the fringes of the Mar Menor and Mediterranean, San Javier has a period of intense summer tourism activity during the peak summer months, although it is popular with retirees of all nationalities out of peak season.
Tickets for the annual San Javier Jazz Festival can be purchased at the Festival office in San Javier Town Hall, Plaza de España.
