Edinburgh man dies suddenly while on holiday in Mallorca
Foreign Office offers support after unexpected death at Puerto Pollensa hotel
A Scottish tourist from Edinburgh has died suddenly while on holiday with his wife in Mallorca, in a tragedy that has left his family receiving support from the UK Foreign Office. The man died on Wednesday April 15 while staying at the four-star Puerto Azul Suite Hotel in Puerto Pollensa, although the exact cause of death is still not known.The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has confirmed that it is in contact with the family and is working with the Spanish authorities. An FCDO spokesperson said: “We are providing support to the family of a British national who died in Spain and in contact with the local authorities.”
Puerto Pollensa is a well-known resort on the north coast of Mallorca and is especially popular with British holidaymakers. The Puerto Azul Suite Hotel sits in a sought-after spot, with views of the Tramuntana mountain range, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and is just a short walk from nearby beaches.
The man was understood to have died unexpectedly during his stay at the hotel, while holidaying with his wife. No further details have been released about the circumstances surrounding his death.
Mallorca remains one of the best-known destinations for British visitors, and Puerto Pollensa in particular is a familiar choice for those looking for a coastal break with mountain views and easy access to the sea. But for one Edinburgh family, what should have been a holiday has now ended in deep sadness.
